UTI and Cystitis — See an Online Doctor in Ireland

A urinary tract infection (UTI) or cystitis is painful and rarely waits for a convenient time. An online doctor can talk through your symptoms the same day and, where appropriate, arrange treatment.

Common UTI and cystitis symptoms

  • A burning or stinging feeling when you pass urine
  • Needing to go more often or more urgently
  • Cloudy, strong-smelling urine, or urine that looks pink or red
  • Pain low in the tummy or lower back

How an online doctor helps

Your doctor asks about your symptoms, how long you have had them, any previous infections, other health conditions, allergies and medicines. Where it is clinically appropriate, they may advise self-care measures or prescribe treatment, which is sent to your pharmacy. They may also ask you to give a urine sample to your own GP or a local service.

Signs you need to be seen in person quickly

  • A high temperature, shivering or feeling very unwell
  • Pain in your back or side, or vomiting
  • Blood in the urine that does not settle
  • Symptoms in pregnancy, in men, or in children
  • Symptoms that return again and again

Self-care while you arrange help

Drink plenty of fluids, take simple pain relief that is suitable for you, and avoid holding urine in. The HSE has a clear guide to cystitis, linked below.
