How your due date is worked out
A pregnancy is usually dated from the first day of your last period, and the average pregnancy lasts 40 weeks (280 days) from that date. If your cycle is longer or shorter than 28 days, the date is adjusted. Your dating scan will usually confirm or adjust it.
