How a video or phone GP appointment works in Ireland

To get the most from the call, find a quiet, private spot in Ireland with a good phone signal or Wi-Fi, keep your phone charged, and have your medication names and any recent readings (such as blood pressure) to hand.

After you book, your doctor contacts you at the time you chose — by phone call or WhatsApp video call, on the number you gave when booking. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

  • Phone or WhatsApp video — nothing to install
  • Find a quiet, private place with a signal
  • Have your medicines list to hand
  • Same price whether it is video or phone: from €35
  • Doctor calls you at your booked time

Frequently asked questions

Can I see an online doctor in Ireland today?

Yes. DrCall appointments are available every day and most patients can be seen the same day. Choose the next available time on our booking page — the earliest bookable slot is 30 minutes from now.

Do I need to download an app for a video GP appointment?

No. Your doctor contacts you by phone call or WhatsApp video call on the number you provide when booking. You do not need a DrCall account.

What if my connection is poor in Ireland?

Tell the doctor straight away. A normal phone call usually works even where video does not, and your doctor can call you back if the line drops.

How much does an online GP consultation in Ireland cost?

A DrCall online consultation starts from €35. That covers your consultation, including a sick cert, repeat prescription or referral where clinically appropriate. Your card is only authorised when you book and is charged once a GP confirms your appointment.

Do I have to travel to see the doctor?

No. Consultations take place by secure video or phone, so you can be at home in Ireland — or anywhere else in Ireland — and still see an Irish-registered GP.

Can I get a prescription or sick cert online in Ireland?

Yes, where your doctor considers it clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose, and sick certs are available for work or college. DrCall cannot prescribe benzodiazepines, Z-drugs, opioids or stimulants.

Is an online doctor consultation private and safe?

Yes. Consultations use secure, GDPR-compliant technology, our doctors follow Irish Medical Council guidelines, and the same doctor–patient confidentiality applies as in a face-to-face visit.
