How an online GP consultation works in Ireland

An online GP consultation follows the same shape as a surgery visit. Your doctor asks about your symptoms and medical history, may ask you to describe — or show on camera — what is bothering you, and agrees a plan with you: advice, a prescription, a certificate, a referral, or a recommendation to be seen in person.

You do not need a DrCall account. If you have a regular GP in Ireland, mention them when you book — your online doctor may suggest follow-up with them where that is the sensible next step.

  • About 15 minutes with an Irish-registered GP
  • Choose your own day and time
  • Prescriptions sent electronically to your pharmacy, where appropriate
  • Sick certs and referrals where clinically appropriate
  • Card authorised, charged only when confirmed
  • No account or registration needed

Frequently asked questions

Can I see an online doctor in Ireland today?

Yes. DrCall appointments are available every day and most patients can be seen the same day. Choose the next available time on our booking page — the earliest bookable slot is 30 minutes from now.

What is the difference between an online GP and my local GP in Ireland?

An online GP consults by video or phone, so you can be seen quickly from anywhere. Your local surgery knows your long-term history and can examine you in person. Many people use both — DrCall for convenience and speed, their local GP for ongoing care.

How long is an online GP appointment?

Slots are 15 minutes. Your doctor will take the time they need to deal with your concern properly.

How much does an online GP consultation in Ireland cost?

A DrCall online consultation starts from €35. That covers your consultation, including a sick cert, repeat prescription or referral where clinically appropriate. Your card is only authorised when you book and is charged once a GP confirms your appointment.

Do I have to travel to see the doctor?

No. Consultations take place by secure video or phone, so you can be at home in Ireland — or anywhere else in Ireland — and still see an Irish-registered GP.

Can I get a prescription or sick cert online in Ireland?

Yes, where your doctor considers it clinically appropriate. Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy you choose, and sick certs are available for work or college. DrCall cannot prescribe benzodiazepines, Z-drugs, opioids or stimulants.

Is an online doctor consultation private and safe?

Yes. Consultations use secure, GDPR-compliant technology, our doctors follow Irish Medical Council guidelines, and the same doctor–patient confidentiality applies as in a face-to-face visit.
